Dreamer

Oil on canvas. 60 x 80 cm.

In “Dreamer”, Mau Pavón presents a markedly oneiric and symbolic composition, where vibrant, organic forms rise at the center of the canvas as manifestations of the mental and emotional activity of the figure lying in the desert. At first glance, the piece evokes the dreamer’s inner world, with thoughts and sensations materializing as fluid, vivid volumes ascending toward the sky.

Softly rendered clouds contrast with the intensity of the primary colors—red, blue, and green—that shape the suspended structures. This opposition between the ethereal sky and the chromatic solidity of the forms lends an almost sculptural quality to the floating elements. Each hue seems to represent an emotional state or level of consciousness: red suggests passion and energy, blue denotes serenity and depth, and green connects with vitality and nature. Their vertical arrangement hints at a psychic journey, ascending from the earthly to the higher realms.

The scattered flecks of color surrounding these forms—reminiscent of tiny sparks or confetti—enhance the sense of movement, giving the impression that the dream is fragmenting into multiple particles of memories, sensations, and emotions. It’s as if the dreamer’s mind, depicted on the canvas, is in constant metamorphosis, overflowing with creativity in an unbounded space.

In the lower section, the figure lying on the sand—amidst a barren desert—reinforces the idea of introspective solitude: a stark, almost lifeless setting interrupted only by a couple of distant trees. This device underscores the duality between reality (represented by the desert floor and the motionless body) and the inner universe (the floating shapes and their vibrant dialogue). Thus, the act of dreaming emerges as an escape from an empty landscape and a connection to the mind’s richer, more dynamic realms.

The verticality of the composition and the succession of colored masses guide the eye from the dreamer to the heights, emphasizing a progression of consciousness: from the earthly to the sublime, from the static to the mutable. The droplet- or heart-like shapes lend an organic, symbolic character, as if they embody the essence of human emotions.

As a whole, “Dreamer” confronts us with the blurred boundary between the real world and the inner universe, inviting us to contemplate the creative and transformative power of dreams. Through its surreal language and intense color palette, the piece becomes a reflection of our human ability to transcend the everyday through imagination and introspection.
